Moving to Houston

It is official: We are moving to Houston, Texas! Estevan starts his new job with The User-Friendly Phone Book company as Internet Marketing Manager on August 10th. We are so excited to start this new chapter of our lives in such a beautiful and bustling city. Did you know that Houston is the 4th largest city? So excited!!!

Update: Our house passed inspection with just a few necessary changes to our track lighting in the basement. Now it's just up to the appraisal to live up to our price. Our realtor said that she would bet her life that this sale goes through. I wish I could feel as stress free and sure as she is!

Please bear with me while we ride this roller coaster of a move. I will try to post as often as I can! Pin It Now!

Sorry about that

Just realized this morning that I have been ignoring all of you for far too long... sorry about that!

Big change is in the works, life is getting crazy all of a sudden. You know how it goes, after a few years of easy-going then all of a sudden everything happens at one time. I'll try to post updates of our little house which is the object of affection for a new person... I'm telling you, BIG changes.

Some of my favorite things...

I love to read! If you've ever gone through my house you may have noticed exactly how much I love to read. I have rows and rows of books taking up small spaces throughout my home. People have told me that I should go to a library since I'm spending so much money on books every year but the truth is that I have a problem with collecting things I love. I enjoy every aspect of a good book; the way the corners of my favorite books get a little tattered, the smell of a classic novel, the crisp paper turning soft with use. To me, it's not just the story, it's the whole package.

One day my dream home will contain one of these:
But, until that day, I will just have to live with little libraries scattered throughout every available space in my home.

While wondering through blog-land today I came across some summer reading lists (Oprah's, Vogue, Barnes and Noble) and realized that I often get asked what my favorite books are. So here is what my summer reading list would look like if I were to make one...

Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
The Pact by Jodi Picoult
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (and the rest of the series)
The Odyssey
by Homer, translated by Robert Faggles
Confesstions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Wicked by Gregory Maguire
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

Some of these are very light (Shopaholic and Twilight) but I guarantee that you will get sucked in and will read the rest of the series within the month, they are that good. Hope that you can enjoy some of these books too! Pin It Now!

The flowers keep coming!

Hope that everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! The weather in Michigan was absolutely perfect on the fourth, great for taking advantage of our beautiful lakes. I made the strawberry shortcake cookies from my previous post; they came out very tasty but my baking powder wasn't up for the job. Very flat cookies, but still very good.

We came back to a garden blooming with new color yet again... maybe we should go away every weekend. Here's some new garden shots, enjoy!

The lilies are in full bloom. I divided this clump last fall and now this pretty pink color is all over the garden.

Gorgeous Asiatic lily, too bad it hasn't multiplied naturally yet.
It's also always facing backwards, towards the South... anyone know why?

Delphinium. Notice the allium which has gone to seed on the right hand side, still looks cool!

And finally, my Limelight Hydrangea... color that is soon to be.
